Plastic Bomb; Höhnie made the questions. January -01 Biography
L = Lazze, N = Nappi
1.) What were the reasons to play again and to record a new EP?
L: Because it was the time to do this. We made the EP 'cos we had new songs.
2.) What do you expect from the German tour? How did you come into contact with Pogo-Paul?
L: One week and six gigs is very hard but we expect that we meet interesting people and the gigs are unforgettable.
N: I was in Germany with Positive Negative in 1997 and we met Pogo-Paul in our gig in Hamburg. He organized a gig for us to Flensburg.
3.) You played at the farewell-festival to "Lepakko" in '99 and "Puntala-Rocken" last year! Were the feelings and the atmosphere the same as in '83 or has something changed?
N: The atmosphere in Lepakko was just like in '83, the only difference was that there were much more people in Lepakko's funeral than 80's. In Puntala was same thing, but the atmosphere was more punk in 2000 than before.
4.) When was RIISTETYT formed and what were your major influences? Have you heard about TERVEET KÄDET at that time? Was CADGERS the same band under a different name?
L: Riistetyt was formed in 1981 and major influences were Discharge, bands fom Crass Records, Chaos UK, Disorder and the whole world around us. The Cadgers was mainly a punk band and Riistetyt hardcore band
.5.) Did you release the first records by yourself or who released them?
L: No we didn't released it ourselves. Vote Vasko from P. Tuotanto was the publisher of the first record.
6.) How did you get into contact with the German label ROCK-O-RAMA? Did you sign a contract?
N: We've never been in contact with Rock'a'Rama. I think that any finnish band had any contacts with them. The Propaganda Records and Rock'a'Rama worked together and bands didn't know about that before the records came out. We have never signed any contract with any label, not here in Finand or anywhere else. I think that we're never going to do that in future.
7.) I remember from old fanzines that during your US-tour you sounded more like HOLY DOLLS than RIISTETYT and people missed a lot of old songs! What kind of experiences did you really have?
L: We had to just play gigs every day. Everything was working around the music. In Finland we don't have that kind of "tour life". People who organized the gigs were so kind, there wasn't anything like that in Finland in those days. I write a book about the US-tour. What do you mean that thing about Holy Dolls? Have you ever heard the band?
8.) Tell us some funny stories that happened during the US-tour!
L: The Funniest day was the worst day in same time. We had a big beach party at noon but everybody were jailed at night. There happened so much that it's impossible to write on here.
9.) Did you play in some other countries besides Finland and the USA ?
L: Riistetyt haven't play anywhere else.
10.) ROCK-O-RAMA announced a German tour together with APPENDIX, BASTARDS and TERVEET KÄDET in 1983! Do you remember why it didn't work out?
N: I don't remember the reason why that tour didn't work. The major reason must be expensies.
11.) What is the connection between HOLY DOLLS and RIISTETYT? Why did you change your style so drastically, were you tired of "just" playing Hardcore?
L: Holy Dolls is Pyhät Nuket in english but the band called Holy Dolls played New York -77 styled punkrock in 1985-86. Holy Dolls and Pyhät Nuket were totally different bands!!! So the connections are just couple of same members.
12.) The label Kill City released a RIISTETYT-EP in 1991! Was that old recordings or have you been back together at that time?
N: The songs in that EP was recorded in 1983. There were originally six songs and the plan was make a 12" EP for Propaganda Rec. I don't know why the EP never came out. In 1991 Wilenius (Propaganda Rec.) and Saarinen (Kaaos Corp.) released that EP out in 7". There's only four songs on it.
13.) Describe the lyrics of RIISTETYT in one sentence! Has there something changed with the new songs?
L: New songs are more aggressive, political and symbolic than ever.
14.) Please tell us something about the early scene in Tampere! Which bands were your friends?
N: Here in Tampere was very active scene in early 80's. Almost all bands were friends together and rehearsed in same places. There weren't so much bands but they were very active. If someone organized a gig in somewhere in Finland the major part of the bands were from Tampere-area. We had any demonstrations, squattings or something, but we worked, drinked and spent time together.
15.) Best and worst experience with RIISTETYT ever!
L: The best thing is that we are the band, the worst thing isn't happened yet.
16.) Was there problems with nazi-punks in the 80ies? Somebody in Pori told me that APPENDIX were nazi-punks, is this true?
N: I don't know what is the real meaning of "nazi-punks". I've never met any. The Appendix weren't nazi-punks. They were stupid guys from Pori with stupid lyrics but they weren't nazis. They were very popular in Finland and they had some piss in their heads, so they asked more money from gigs and spoke stupid things in interviews. I've met some guys from Appendix in 90's and they weren't so stupid anymore except the drummer (he didn't came to Lepakko's funeral and Puntala, 'cos Appendix didn't get so much money from those gigs as he wanted).
17.) Have you ever heard about a band from Eastern Finland called MISTREAT?
N: Yes we've heard about them. They're nazis and most popular skinhead band in Finland. What can I say more.
18.) Do you think that social conflicts ( a lot of immigrants in the suburbs/ghettos especially Helsinki, Russian mafia etc.) will explode in Finland soon?
N: Yes. The democracy in Finland is artificial way to keep people happy. Everybody thinks that they can affect in socioal policy when they vote etc. But the real power here is money. Everything must make profits. All the labour-parties were gone to capitalism and here isn't any real policy for poor people. This is the cause why different radical groups are very activity now. The European Union have made finnish society so greed and stoopid. Rich people will be richer and poor people will be more poor in future. I think that if this way continues the only alternative is civill war. Maybe some people thinks that it can never happen in Finland, but remember what happened in Yugoslavia about ten years ago.
L: Democracy is a illusion made by government for there would be democracy!!!
19.) What is the meaning of RIISTETYT?
N: It's not "Exploited" as someone thinks so. The real meaning of Riistetyt is something like "Victims of Exploitation".
20.) Plans for the future?
Lots of gigs, tours and a record later on this year. That's it.
