| 1. Okay first
off, thanks alot for doing this interview. I really appreciate it.
Now Riistetyt has been going for a while now. Give us a brief history.
how did you all start playing together? Have there been many line
up changes throughout the years? |
|
Maybe it's easier to tell whole story from the beginning:
Riistetyt was originally named Cadgers. It was formed in 1980
or 81. In 81 (in fall of the year) they made a split with Kaaos
(PTEP 01). Line-up was Lateri - voc., Perry - gtr., Piise - b.
and Stydy - dr. In spring of 1982 Perry left the Cadgers and formed
a band called Järjestyshäiriö (they did one great
demo-tape, on vocals was Kake from Kaaos). Raipe replace Perry
in guitar and so band became Riistetyt. "Laki ja järjestys"
-ep (PTEP 03) came out in summer of 82. In fall of that year Piise
left the Riistetyt (he was only 15 years old and he had something
else) and Perry came back. The line-up: Lateri - voc., Perry -
gtr., Raipe - b., Stydy - dr. They made the lp. "Valtion
Vankina" (PRO 006), which came out in January 83. Then Raipe
left and Piise came back to play bass. Next record was "Skitsofrenia"
(PRO 018) 12" ep. It came out in spring of 1983. In that
summer the line-up changed again, Piise and Stydy left on this
time. New drummer and bass player was found from Kaaos, Jaska
and me (Nappi). We were so fucking bored with Jakke. In October
we made "Tuomiopäivä" -ep, which came out
until 1991 (I don't know the reason for this). A month later we
did the studiosection for "Nightmares in Darkness",
it came out in next year (RRR 34). The live side on that album
was recorded at Puntala festivals 83. After we were in studio
Perry went to army and we had any guitarist. On that time we had
the first Holy Dolls -project with Lateri. In December came Rike
from Bastards to play guitar. He was very active to take care
of gigs and other things of band but money was the only reason
why he did all that.
|
It became clear to me little bit later.
Our Holy Dolls -project ispired him to form the Pyhät Nuket
to addition for Riistetyt. We did with Riistetyt further one record
"Raiskattu Tulevaisuus" (RRR 44). It came out later 1984,
much more later than I left the band. On covers of that album they
only thanked me for playing bass on that record. Ok
that tells
something about athmosphere in those days. I didn't get along with
Rike, 'cos I noticed what kind of asshole he was. I left the band
in April 84 and I formed the Kuolleet Kukat with Jakke. Riistetyt
went to touring in USA in summer of that year. They had Make and
Mika from TampereSS in guitar and bass there. I've heard that the
music was only partically Riistetyt stuff in USA. Later they left
Riistetyt completely and concentrated to Pyhät Nuket.
We restarted the band for the funeral of Lepakko in Nov. 1999 (Lepakko
was legendary gigplace in Helsinki which was originally squated
in 1979 and demolished by the Nokia in 1999). The line-up was Lazze-voc,
Rike-guitar, Timo-drums and me-bass. In the beginning of 2000 we
put Rike away, 'cos he came so bossy (actually he was same kind
of asshole like in 80's) and we others didn't get along with him.
Now we tried with two guitarists, Raimo and Vege. With that line-up
we made an EP. "Tervetuloa Kuolema" (FIGHT 030) and little
bit later Timo and Raimo moved away from the band. Perttu came to
drums and since that we've played with current line-up. Now we have
made one LP "Kuka Valehtelee" and some good tours. |
| 2. Are any of
you involved in other bands, labels, or side projects? |
|
Some of us have other projects. Perttu plays drums on Absurd
Attitude and Pause, and also he plays bass in Unkind. I have (Nappi)
still Positive Negative. it's not so active now but in future
we're going to make an EP. Vege is also in PN. Lazze have side
project with some Meanwhile guys; Sotatila (?).
|
They have ep out soon. We're all playing
in common project with Brazilian band Sick Terror. The project is
called Riisteterror, the ep came just out from Hardcore Holocaust.
On October we're going to make second ep. |
| 3. Is anyone
in Riistetyt politically active? If so what are you involved in?
|
|
Everybody of us are somehow political active. Anybody of us belongs
to any parties or movements, 'cos they have anything for us. Personal
level. you know.
|
| 4. Tell us a
bit about the Finnish punk scene/movement. How does it compare from
when you first started to today? Have you seen much change? For
better or for worse? |
|
Guess how many times I've answer this question lately. Some things
haven't been changed at all but some things are changed a lot.
In 80's there were only 2-3 gigs/happening in year but happenings
were really big. Everybody from all over the country came to them.
Nowadays the happenings are much more locally things and there
are gigs almost daily somewhere. The activity for demonstration
is very high in these days. I don't remember any demonstrations
in 80's, only couple of squattigs.
|
This is that sort of thing that somebody
can write a book about it. Otherwise I have to say that the scene
in Finland is very united now. Everybody make things together, younger
and older, straights, anarchists etc. I've understand that this
kind of unity is not elsewhere. I don't know, I can be wrong but
for example in Sweden the scene is totally different. |
| 5. What about
tours and such? Where has Riistetyt been? Do you have any plans
on comming to the US? |
|
In 1984, or something, Riistetyt were in US. I wasn't in band
on that time and I can't tell you such nothing about it. The line-up
and songs were crap etc. In April 2001 we made 6 gigs minitour
in Germany and Austria and in December we were two weeks in Brazil.
In June 2002 we were again in Germany, 15 gigs. In next April
(2003) we're going to make some gigs in Scandinavia with Fleas
and Lice and next in May (2003) we're coming to US (I really hope
that it'll coming true).
|
| 6. In your homeland,
do you have any problems with racist punks or skin heads? |
|
We don't have racist punks. I don't know any. But here are some
skin heads. quite many, I think. We haven't any problems for years
with them. This kind of silence is little bit frightening. I'm
sure that one day there'll be big fights on the streets against
faschism, but I hope that it's never happens 'cos then the streets
are full of blood.
|
| 7. Do you see
sexism and homophobia as a problem in your area? |
|
I think that sexism and homophobia are as a problem everywhere.
Here it's not big problem.
|
| 8. What are the
future plans for Riistetyt as far as releases and things are concerned? |
|
Now we're making new songs for next record. It'll be 10" miniLP.
Most of us have never done that format before. Other things are
make good gigs and tours in future. quite customary answer. hehe.
|
| 9. Do you consider
the punk movement to be an important voice for change......would
you still consider it a threat to the injustices in todays society? |
|
Of course it have some kind of effect. what kind. it's different
question. We have to observe what happens around us all the time.
We have to know what kind of shit is treating us. My opinions
and view of life have became much more radical when I'm get older.
and it's still gets more in future.

| 10. Any last
words you would like to leave with the readers? |

You can be crazy, but don't be stupid!!!
