Biography

JO: So first of all. When and why did you join riistetyt ?

NAPPI: First time I joined the band in Aug. 1983... I was in Kaaos that time, but it wasn't so active. Bass player and drummer of Riistetyt have just left the band and they asked me and Kaaos drummer... So we left Kaaos and joined the band.

JO: Where all these bands friends back in those days?

NAPPI: All the bands from Tampere were friends... Of course there were a lot of friends from elswhere in Finland too. That we changed the bands didn't make good for the relationship between Kaaos and Riistetyt... it think... hehe.

JO: Ahh I see. So where local shows different from now?

NAPPI: Of course... On that time there weren't any clubs etc... and there were just 2-3 gigs on year... Places were youth centers and community halls. Those gigs were really big, everybody from everywhere came to these shows. I think that those happenings were somekind of small festivals... Now that kind of shows are organized mainly summertime and those are festivals... And also now there is so many gigs all the time. 4-5 in a week. Clubs etc...

JO: Its a big difference. Do you think the younger generation of Tampere punks acknowledge this and appreciate this?

NAPPI: Actually I'm not sure... Now it's so much easier to organize something and I think that younger generation have somekind of understanding for that it's haven't been always like now. 12-13 years ago was really hard to organize gigs in Tampere 'cos here wasn't places. The better situation came middle of the 90's

JO: Thats good to here.
So how many times and where have you toured with Riistetyt?

NAPPI: I left the band just before the USA tour in 1984. so I wasn't there. The next tour of the band was in 2001 in Germany. Later on that year we were in Brazil. 2002 long European tour. 2003 Scandinavian and Brazil. And 2004 in Europe

JO: Most memorable show?

NAPPI: Maybe it was in Hangar 110, Sao Paulo, during the second Brazilian tour... There were lot of people, 750. So fucking hot and of course we played with legenday COLERA. Audience was so crazy...

JO: Wow! Sounds good!
Most memorable person youve met on tour?

NAPPI: There's so many of them... I have to think. All those band members which we've played with etc... for example Dave from MDC was really nice... He told the stories of MDC tours etc. whole night after the gig. That happened in Vienna, Austria in 2002. Anyway, there's so much more original persons that I can't list them now.

JO: Ok thats cool. Why do you think the Brazillian punk scene is influenced especially by the finnish scene?

NAPPI: That's a good question. Maybe it's from early 80's (self evident)... People from here and Brazil wrote and traded a lof tapes and records etc. with each other. And of course the have same influences from UK and US etc. than us.

JO: That's what I thought.
Who in the band writes the lyrics?

NAPPI: Lazze writes all the lyrics nowadays.

JO: And what d osome newer songs talk about?

NAPPI: They are quite political... Whoo... It's better that you check them from our website.

JO: OK. I will
Explain to me why As Prisoner of State and Nightmares in Darkness where released on Rock O Rama records, the same label that released alot of white power bands?

NAPPI: We dindn't knew that those records are coming out from someone else than Propaganda Records... That guy from Propaganda was (and still is) so naive and stupid that he didn't understood what kind of "label" RockORamas was. Have to say again that any of the finnish bands were any kind of contact with ROR... even knew that the record label called RockORama was exist, before the records came out.

JO: OK, so tat explains why so many 80s finnish bands like terveet kadet have releases on rock o rama.
So has anyone tryed to do anything about this?

NAPPI: What can we do about it? Nothing. Just trying to tell to everybody how's the thing's really are. That ROR guy still makes reissues of those old records... in secret. Hohnie is totally different label... He have our approval to put those records out.

JO: Some day Rock O Rama will get what they deservre!
What is the current band line-up,and what are future plans?

NAPPI: Lazze - voc., Vege - gtr, Perttu - dr, Nappi - b. Now we're working with new songs. Going to studio to make a LP in sometime fall of the year that it comes out before April when we're touring in US.

JO: You should do a few canadian tour dates while your at it!

NAPPI: Yes we should... Hope those border things etc... don't be a big problem. Felix Havoc will organize the tour and I have any idea what he think about that... Have to ask.

JO: OK good.
And what is going on with Riisteterror?

NAPPI: The Riisteterror 2nd ep ASEMA Z came out last week, after the 2 years. I think that we leave the whole project like this... no more records. Of course the Brazilian guys wants to continue but... we are not interested anymore.

JO: Ahh, I see.
So on a closing note: Whats your top 5 records of all time?

NAPPI: My personal top 5; Discharge - Why? (actually all), Amebix - No Sanctuary, Motorhead - No Sleep til Hammersmith, Crass - Stations of the Crass, Monster Magnet - Dopes for Infinity... These were the records which came to my mind in this time... next week the top list will be different... hehe...

JO: Ya i know what you mean! live at the hammersmith is probably my favorite Motorhead also!

NAPPI: Whoo I'll see Motorhead on stage in Saturday...

JO: I wish i could see em! anyways, thanks alot for your time. Hope all goes well for you and your band.

NAPPI: Thanx... it have to be late there 'cos here it's almost 10 am.
If you have more questions to ask, we can make this again. OK?

JO: For sure! thanks alot!

NAPPI: You're welcome
