Tähän levyyn (no ainakin monella)
liittyy jos jonkinlaisia ennakkoasenteita ja/tai odotuksia. Niin
minullakin… Itse olisin halunnut ("Suomen kovimman halonhakkaajan"=)
Stydyn messiin. Stydyä tää maa kaipaa ja se vanha
Skitsofrenian aikainen logo olisi ollut aika siisti myös. Niitä
ei nyt ole messissä, mutta ei siitä sen enempää.
Tässä siis on todellakin aivan uusia Riistetyt biisejä
EP täynnä. Oli se jotenkin hämmentävää
kuulla uudesta levystä, mutta… Musiikki oli oikeastaan
erittäin positiivinen yllätys. Ei tässä soitella
mitään elähtänyttä ja vanhentunutta lämmittelyaikuisrokkia.
Kyllä se on ihan oikeasti hyvän kuloista ja Riistetyt-asteikolla
myös aika rankkoja biisejä. Nopeeta soitetaan ja biisit
kulkee ihan oikeasti. Sanoja en ehkä oikein tajunnut. Välillä
tuntuu vähän pätkistä kootuilta lyriikoilta,
ei niinkään ehjiltä kokonaisuuksilta. Se hieman hämmentää
ja häiritsee. Mutta pääasia on, että suomeksi
huudetaan. Kyllä englanninkielestä riittää,
kun on laitettu käännökset levylle. |

En kyllä oikeasti tajua, miksi nämä
kaikki vanhat bändit taas kasataan, mutta toisaalta ehkä
tajuan sen sitten, kun olen itse yhtä vanha kuin nämä
äijät, hähhäh. No anyway Riistettyjen siirtyminen
uudelle vuosituhannelle tapahtui siis uuden 7":n julkaisulla.
Ensin plussat: kohtuullisen toimivaa ja kokemuksen ansioista suht
varmasti soitettua hardcorepunkkia, joka kuulostaa - öh - Riistetyiltä;
ota tai jätä! Näistä lyriikoista on ollut keskustelua
muissakin medioissa, mutta kyllä minunkin täytyy vielä
sanoa, että en oikeasti taida tajuta niistä yhtään
mitään. Ainakin sellainen vaikutelma tulee pätkistä
kuten biisissä Jo sikiönä silvottu: "Amnesia,
eutanasia, jo sikiönä silvottu. Kastraatio, poliittinen
inferno, jo kohdussa kahlittu". Vähän jää
sanoisinko sellainen "tekotaiteellinen" maku suuhun, heh
heh, eipä olisi Riistettyjen kohdalla ehkä uskonut mutta
Laterihan lupaili TV:ssä selitellä lyricsejään
jos jotakuta sattuu vielä enemmän kiinnostamaan. Mutta
muuten Riistetyt on Riistetyt niinkuin punk on punk, eikä siinä
kai paljonkaan enää ole mitään lisättävää?

Suomipunkin konkaribändi Riistettyjen
uusi kuusi biisiä sisältävä EP on vauhdikasta,
ehkä hieman metallista ja mielenkiintoisin sanoituksin tehtyä
HardCorea. Sanoitukset eivät ole mielestäni niin suoria
kuin yleensä tämän tyylisillä bändeillä.
Mutta mikäs siinä kun soitto tuntuu maittavan ja laulaja
Lazzen (Lateri) sanoistakin saa hyvin selvää. Kyllä
sitä turhempiakin levyjä on tullut kuunneltua |

Classic Discharge influenced Finnish hardcore
from Riistetyt complete with quick guitar solos. The style is done
by numbers, and if you like that sound then this will do you just
fine. The lyrics are printed in both English and Finnish. (KM) |
Riistetyt (means Exploited in Finnish) was
one of the greatest Finnish hardcore bands of the early 80's. Their
Skitsofrenia LP is my of my personal favorite Finnish HC album.
Riistetyt changed it's line up in the mid 80s and eventually mutated
into a totally different glam sounding band called Holy Dolls. When
I heard that Riistetyt would be playing at the Lepakko festival
in 1999 I was a little dubious. Would they play glam or hardcore?
Would it be washed up, or still have some fire and power. I was
really suprised when they played, one of the best performances of
the weekend. Riistetyt had returned and playing some awesome traditional
Finnish hardcore mixed with some modern crust influence. Fight records
released this 7" over a year ago and asked if I would be interested
in doing a US pressing with a bonus track. I agreed and a long process
of waiting for the extra track to be recorded and for Havoc to get
the money and artwork together ensued. Finally the end result is
a 7" that stacks up with Riistetyt's material of the 80s or
with more contemporary Scandinavian hardcore bands like Kaaos, Totalitar
or Skitystem. Really heavy, driving hardcore that will make you
question your bleak soulless existence on this doomed earth.

These fine Finnish fellows sat at the head
of the class 18 years ago. But what, I wondered, will a reformed
Discharge- fueled hardcore band sound like in 2002? Surprisingly
good, unlike many of the corpses that have been resurrected as of
late. (I just realized that these guys are proably about 40 years
old today.)
There is nothing here for these boys to be ashamed of. But "Tervetuola
Kuolema" doesn't quite approach the music of their salad days.
(Try looking for "As A Prisioner Of State" or the greatest
hits CD that came out around 1996.) If you can't find (or afford!)
the old stuff, this will give you a decent taste of Finn hardcore.
While this is a sturdy release, it didn't kill me the way I had
hoped it would. Worthy of a couple of spins, but it's not something
I'm gonna be jamming for weeks

This 7" was originally released more than
a year ago by Fight Records, and this reissued version from Havoc
has a bonus track tacked on. The EP marks the recorded return of
Riistetyt, a Finnish hardcore band that was around in the 80's,
and it damn near sounds like it could have been recorded in the
80's. Rugged hardcore/punk with moderate speed and a driving D-beat
type of sound, adding in some slim melody and blazing solos at times
(I'm talking metal, folks). It's not the most diverse or original
material, but when held against the standards of the genre Riistetyt
definitely has a sound of their own. The vocals are really unique,
it's just shouting (almost all in Finnish) but it's incredibly well
enunciated and easy to understand, which is rare. I love the recording.
There's a really even mix, and nothing is too clean or too raw,
it's perfect for this style of hardcore. I especially like the vocal
layering and the distant reverb over the lead breaks. The lyrics
are very brief and broken up (English translations are included),
a bit more abstract than usual: "A tear of blood in the stream,
A holy lie in the fire, Tyrants in the catacombs, Martyrs in mass
gravesS" The sleeve is simply black and white with nice illustrations
and clean text. Nothing flashy. The record is pressed on blue vinyl,
though I'm sure other colors exist. This is definitely good stuff,
and very potent considering the circumstances.

RIISTETYT 7" TERVETULOA KUOLEMA - HAVOC
Partial Review: Great fast paced and angry punk rock, this band started its rain of terror many years ago in Finland and now are back! Vocals are in Finnish, well, at least 6 out of 7 of the songs are. The inside of this 7 incher has the lyrics in both Finish and English. Nice blue wax for the record. A great EP that will show the world that this band is one of the originals from Northern Europe and know how to play their brand of hardcore, crusty, punk rock.

RIISTETYT - "Tervetiloa Kuolema" 7" Continuing the recent trait of old
Scandinavian punk bands reforming this new release on Havoc sees the return
of 80s Finnish d-beat masters RIISTETYT. This is relentless full on driving
Tampere hardcore at its best. These guys, together with bands like AVSKUM
and CRUDE SS influenced a whole generation of hardcore and its great to see
them back. (SH)
RIISTETYT - "Tervetuloa Kuolema" EP Who'd have thought there's be a new
RIISTETYT record in 2001 - this lot along with KAAOS, BASTARDS, RATTUS etc
were in the first wave of Finnish hardcore punk from the early 80's. They're
back and sound as powerful as ever, still fresh to these ears, bringing to
mind such class bands as MELLAKKA and WRETCHED. The opening track "Illusion (Invasion, Territory)" concerns the genocide of native americans by "U.S
Babylon", the other 5 songs are generally about how twisted, fucked up and
hate filled humans are, these old fuckers are mighty pissed off, and rightly
so, long may they continue! (SN)
